Sometimes members at projects are not good at chatting to others about Rotary in a way that might interest others in finding out more so here are some pointers:

  • Be friendly, be enthusiastic

  • The following are some of the elements that need to be conveyed - keep the conversation casual:

  • Rotarians are friendly and welcoming

  • Rotary offers its members the limitless ability to contribute to the community both locally and internationally

  • in a way that suits their preferences and interests while respecting their lifestyle and commitments.

  • Rotary members are men and women, of all ages and professions with a wide range of backgrounds

  • All clubs are proud of their achievements.

  • They are family focused with a belief in service through fellowship and encourage leadership from their younger members.

  • Rotary meets weekly but there is no requirement to come along weekly,

  • as the emphasis is on overall participation including projects and socials

  • Obviously each of the points can be personalised to how they apply to the club - relating these to a  Rotarians own personal experience is very powerful

  • Sometimes a flick through some representative projects is useful and there are two options: 1) Rotary Down Under App from Play Store and, 2) go to www.rotarystories-nzandpacific.blogspot.com (may have to download Blogger App)

  • Invite the person to find out more about Rotary at non-obligation ... this is important.  As appropriate invite to a meeting, introduce to someone else who can help them further or take a contact with a promise to get back to them

  • A rapid follow-up is absolutely critical ... the opportunity to impress is time-perishable and this will normally be done by the club membership committee

So, to put that all together it could be something like:

'There is no age limits for Rotary membership.  Rather it is the quality of the person that determines acceptance to Rotary.  Rotarians are men and women from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages, cultures, personal strengths, interests, skills, professions and experiences united together in a willingness to work together to build a better community for all in both local and international communities.  To find out more at no-obligation ... by speaking to a club local to you call 0800 4 ROTARY (0800 4 768279)'

The greatest publicity is face-to-face with a non-Rotarians showing an enthusiasm for Rotary and providing a simple description about how Rotary might be of interest to them
